Spirit Transformation - Andrew Elliott 05/10/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Andrew Elliott shares the lesson 'Spirit Transformation'. Reading from the book of John, Andrew looks at Nicodemus and his conversation with Jesus. We see how Nicodemus is confused by the teachings of Jesus, and was in a place of spiritual darkness. He struggled to receive Jesus' teachings with an open mind. Andrew reminds us we are baptized in to Jesus' body and that you can't move from one to the other without the Spirt. This was the plan from the beginning.

Do You Consider Yourself a Missionary? - Cayo Cesar Carneiro 05/03/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Cayo Cesar Carneiro, visiting from the church in Brasília Brazil, talks about being transformed by God's will. He asks 'How many of you consider yourself a missionary?'. Cayo shares from Romans 12, how we are not to conform to the world, but be transformed by God's good, pleasing, and perfect will. How it is His will that we live a life loving others, being a missionary right in our own neighborhood and town. That love is a practice that directs our life. Cayo asks: When was the last time you prayed asking God for a pure heart? He reminds us that this love (God's love) comes from a pure heart, good conscience, and sincere faith.

One Thing You Lack - Max Plager 04/26/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Max Plager, from the west region, shares the lesson 'One Thing You Lack'. Max, reading from Mark 10, teaches us about discipleship and what it takes to be disciple of Jesus. How in the Bible, the word Christian and disciple are used to mean the same type of person. That discipleship is a simply a response to God’s grace that we live out each day. God will call you to 'de-throne' whatever is currently on the 'throne' of your heart. Max reminds us, for Jesus, you don't have to give up everything, but you have to be willing to give up anything. That we have to trust that we will be given more than what we give up.

The Restlessness In Our Hearts - Andrew Elliott 04/05/26

Welcome to our Easter Service! This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Andrew Elliott shares the lesson 'The Restlessness In Our Hearts'. Andrew talks about how our restlessness and searching in the wrong place can be like a cancer in our lives. Reading in Genesis, Andrew teaches us how Adam and Eve did just that. They had the good life but then chose to reach for forbidden fruit out of restlessness. We often take something God has given us, and then put it above God. Andrew, reading in Luke 23 and 24, shares how the first century disciples were looking for Jesus in the tomb after he had risen. When the women looking for Jesus didn't find him, the two men in robes said 'Why do you look for the living among the dead?' Andrew's challenge: If you want life, you have to stop looking in the graveyard.

Risky Kindness - John Jacobs 03/29/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, John Jacobs shares the lesson 'Risky Kindness'. John, reading from 2 Samuel 9, teaches us what Khesed (Grace/Kindness) is and how it was shown to Jonathan's son Mephibosheth by King David, at a time when Mephibosheth was in 'Lo Debar' (a place of hardship). David practiced irresponsible grace with Jonathan's son. David was less interested in Mephibosheth’s position and more concerned about his condition. Are we focusing on a person's position and title or the needs? John's challenge: When is the last time you practiced irresponsible grace with someone.

Eye of the Beholder - Kyle Eastman 03/22/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'Eye of the Beholder, What Are You Worth?' Reading from Ephesians 2, we see the why 'God made us alive in Christ', because of his great love for us. A love without prior conditions, but with the expectation we will respond with reciprocated love. We are attractive because God loves us. Kyle's challenge: What lies do you believe that have shaped your self-worth? And how has that impacted your life? The conclusion: Only God's opinion matters, not the opinion of the world around us.

Wells & Fences - Kyle Eastman 03/15/26

This week in the Detroit Church of Christ, Kyle Eastman shares the lesson 'Wells & Fences'. Reading from the book of Mark, Kyle talks about how the Pharisees made laws and traditions like ceremonial washing. They didn't care about the person's heart, but that is all God cares about. These can be 'fences' that will point people away from God. His challenge: For us to look at our rules and traditions or 'fences' of thinking. How we must be more accepting of others as we see the direction they are going. To share God's love unconditionally (like the wells of the desert shepherds) in order to draw people closer to God through a message of love and mercy.
